If you are going to Fort Frances from the west, such as Winnipeg, you have two choices. You can either drive on the Trans-Canada Highway to just past Kenora, and then head south on Highway 71. When you come to the end of Highway 71, make a right and head east for about 35 kms (21 miles) until you reach Fort Frances. You also have the option of leaving Winnipeg and traveling through the US to get to the Fort. This drive is part of MOM's Way. Drive east from Winnipeg on the Trans-Canada highway (Hwy 1) for about 20 minutes until you reach Highway 12. Go south on Highway 12, you'll pass Steinbach, Sprague, and finally the US border. Crossing the border into the US, head south on Highway 313 and into Warroad, Minnesota. From Warroad, take Highway 11 east to Baudette, MN where you'll cross a toll-free bridge into Rainy River, Canada. From Rainy River, take Canadian Highway 11 east to Fort Frances. This last leg is 90 kms or 55 miles.
