Less than one per cent of the world's fresh water holds the mighty muskellunge. This highly prized trophy fish is found in Lake of the Woods. Many of the fishing lodegs and resorts are located in well protected bays, so being able to fish is always assured. Even if the wind is blowing, you can fish among the many sheltering islands in Sabaskong Bay. The bay is known for trophy muskie fishing. The muskie is usually found concealed among aquatic plants at the sides of channels, or off shelving rocks and offshore shoals in lakes and rivers in summer. In the fall, muskies moves into shallow water. Because of its large size and fighting qualities, the musky is one of Ontario's most renowned game fish. Heavy casting tackle is used because of the great strength of this fish, which can reach weights of over 50 lbs (22 kg). Large wooden plugs, spoons, bucktail baits, combination spoon and feather, surface lures, and large bass plugs are usually quite successful.
