Pickle Lake, "Ontario's Last Frontier", is located at the end of Highway 599. Pickle Lake is the most northerly community in Ontario that is accessible by road. Take Highway 599 north from Ignace. Along the way, you'll pass such lakes as Lake St. Joseph (famous for its walleye fishing) and Osnaburgh Lake. Lake St. Joseph, has many inflowing streams and rivers, lots of islands, a ragged shoreline and a structurally complex bottom. This 150 000 acre fishery has a uniquely controlled access brought about by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and the Tourist Camps on Lake St. Joe. The result has been a spectacular fishery for walleye. The lake also has great northern pike fishing.

Pickle Lake, being "at the end of the road" also has outfitters that will fly you into remote outpost cabins to fish or hunt moose or bear. You can fly into lakes such as Assin Lake, Bow Lake, Cannon Lake, Crerar Lake, Forester Lake, Leckey Lake, Littleford Lake, Markop Lake, Morris Lake, Nanos Lake, Newagank Lake, North Caribou Lake, Onis Lake, Otoskwin Lake, Pipestone River, Skinner Lake, Troutfly Lake, Wastyanipi Lake, Wetlauffer Lake, Wigwascence Lake, and Williams Lake.

At the outpost camps, you can fish mainly for trophy walleye, northern pike and brook trout. Moose and black bear hunts are also available,
