History of Rainy River, Ontario, Canada

The Rainy River Valley is an area of maginificent lakes and rivers, mixed woodlands and wildlife habitat, gently rolling hills and a continental climate that changes with every season. Originally a fur trading and lumber settlement, Rainy River remains a vital transportation center with the Canadian National Railways a major employer in the town. Rainy River is a hub for materials coming from the west to eastern markets. The Old Train Station remains standing today as a reminder of the importance of the railway to the people of Rainy River. Steam Engine 4008 has retired in Town of Rainy River.
