Opasquia Wilderness Provincial Park, North of Red Lake, Ontario, Canada

Straddling the Manitoba border, Opasquia Wilderness Park is 1.5 million acres of pure wilderness. Among the lakes and boreal forest, there are bald eagles, bear, moose, osprey, otters, wolves, minks, martins and of course, an abundance of fish. The park has been protected as a wilderness park because of its distinctive geology. A ridge of glacial till two kilometres wide rises 100 metres above its surroundings. This is the Opasquia Moraine. On the sides of the moraine, wave-cut terraces and segments of raised shoreline indicate the former limit of glacial Lake Agassiz. The dominant tree species is spruce, growing alongside scattered poplar, tamarack, birch, and ash. There is great fishing for trophy walleye and northern pike.

There are no park visitors' facilities in the park. However, there are fly-in housekeeping outpost cabins within the park boundaries. There is also white-water canoeing and wilderness trekking available to those who are able to reach the park, which is accessible by air only.

Opasquia Park is located about 245 km (155 miles) north of Red Lake, along the Manitoba border. There are many miles of pristine shoreline. You'll enjoy the beauty of various waterfalls and rapids in the park. There are no roads in the park - this is remote wilderness at its finest.
