Cross Country Ski Trails Early in the season Red Lake skiers begin skiing on 5km of groomed trails located at the Red Lake Area Golf & Country Club. As the weather gets colder and the water freezes the skiers begin in Cochenour and ski across the Ice Road to McKenzie Island where there are over 50km in groomed trails, the trails are groomed for skate skiing and diagonal or classic. You will be skiing in a wilderness setting where there is much wildlife, so you may want to bring your camera with you! You may also notice the old mine sites on the Islands as you enjoy the crisp clean air of Northwestern Ontario. Weekend passes available. Snowmobile Trails The Red Lake area has a Trailmasters club that keeps our Snowmobile trails in good condition and run the snow poker every January. There are many miles of groomed snowmobile trails. With lots of snow and very little snowmobile traffic the trails are fantastic.
Ice Fishing Some of the resorts and lodges in the area stay open for the winter. You can go ice fishing for a variety of species including lake trout, walleye and northern pike. You can also stay at a hotel or motel in the area.
