The Ojibway Golf & Curling Club is a nine hole course noted for its variety, challenge and beauty. The course has a scenic layout that takes the player through the many varieties of trees on well manicured fairways and greens. The club dates back to the early sixties when it was designed by its founders. Although the course is not long, it presents a good test for the high and low handicap player from its three sets of tees. Water will come into play on three holes and the blue grass/ fescue greens roll between 8.5 and 9 on the stimp meter. The most challenging hole is also the most scenic, the par three 8th at 181 yards from the back tees. This tee shot is over water to a large undulating green and plays longer than the length on the score card as it is uphill and into the prevailing breeze. A well struck long iron or fairway wood is required to find this green. Each summer the club holds the Ojibway Blueberry Open Golf Tournament, with the ladies and men playing on separate weekends. Sioux Lookout Museum
The Sioux Lookout Museum was officially opened on July 18, 1981 in a special ribbon-cutting ceremony. However, the museum existed in various incarnations well before then. The Sarah Vaughn Public Library was situated on the corner of King Street and Fifth Avenue. It was in this small building that volunteers began to collect donations from local townspeople that related to the history of the town. The overwhelming success of the displays convinced the energetic locals that a full-size museum was desperately needed. Through hours of hard work and tireless fundraising, the town council agreed to set aside a piece of land to house the museum. At around that same time the Public School Board donated two portable classrooms which were no longer needed. The volunteers came together to build a permanent establishment out of the trailers, and that is the museum which is still being used to this day. The museum is open only during the summer months Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm but will change to accommodate special events. For more information, please call 807-737-1562 or 807-737-1994.
