Winter Activities in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Canada

There is plenty to do in the winter months in Sioux Lookout. The Ojibway Power Toboggan Association maintains snowmobile trails in the Sioux Lookout are. The Nordic Nomads Cross Country Ski Club maintains over 25 kms of the most pristine cross-country ski trails anywhere in the region. Some of the resorts and lodges also stay open year-round and offer great ice fishing. The Sioux Mountain Winter Festival is held every third weekend in January each year. The 3-day festival includes activities such as a Caribbean Dinner, the Chamber Chili Challenge, a Family Ice Fishing Derby and more.

Cross Country Skiing
Nordic Nomads Cross Country Ski Club maintains over 25 km of cross-country ski trails. There are both challenging and relaxing trails, as well as racing loop on the grounds of the Ojibway Golf and Curling Club. The trails meander through stands of pine and through marshland. They circle Duck Lake, look out over Pelican Lake and run through the grounds of Cedar Outdoor Education Centre. The cross-country skiing is first rate for both the most experienced or novice skier. The Nordic Nomads have a jackrabbit program for children and youth and regular ski clinics. There is no better way to experience the scenic area and the exhilaration of Sioux Lookout's winter season that skiing on the Nomad's trail system, sheltered from the wind by the tall pines.

Snowmobiling on Ontario Snowmobile Trails
The Ojibway Power Toboggan Association is a volunteer organization that maintains snowmobile trails in the Sioux Lookout area. It promotes safe snowmobiling by providing training courses and keeping the trails in good condition. The local club maintains 150 kms of the Trans Ontario Provincial Trails network as well as about 150 kms of local club trails. There are a number of events organized throughout the winter by the Ojibway Power Toboggan Association including an annual Poker Derby, snowmobile raffle and Snowarama. The OPTA clubhouse is located on Abram Lake Road. Ice Fishing There are many lakes in the area to try your luck at ice fishing. Fish for lake trout, northern pike or walleye.
