There are also many other great fishing lakes around Vermilion Bay. If you take Highway 647 north from Bobby's Corner in Vermilion Bay, you'll come to the Indian Lake Chain. You can fish for walleye and musky on all these lakes and for smallmouth bass and lake trout on many of them. The Indian Lake Chain is a unique body of water; it's a system of small lakes and channels, approximately 18 miles in total length.
If you head north just a little farther, you reach Canyon Lake - famous for its musky fishing. Each year many guests at the lodges on Canyon Lake catch many musky 20 to 30 pound some have even caught musky over 50 pounds! Canyon Lake also has great smallmouth bass and walleye fishing. There is good northern pike fishing in nearby lakes.
From Vermillion Bay, drive approximately ten miles north on Highway 105. Turn left on Highway 609 and drive to Clay Lake. Clay Lake is 28 miles long. You can fish for walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, muskie and lake trout. If you head north on Highway 105 towards Perrault Falls, you'll reach Cliff, Cedar and Perrault Lakes. Richard Lake is located halfway between Vermilion Bay and Kenora, Ontario. The lake is small and quiet; you'll enjoy the lakefront cabins.
You can also fly into lodges in the area - lakes such as Canon Lake. Canon Lake is in a remote area of Northwestern Ontario, 25 miles northwest of Vermilion Bay, accessible only by float plane. Canon offers an outstanding variety of fishing that includes walleye, smallmouth bass, lake trout, muskie and northern pike. You can also fish the adjacent Wabigoon River system and five portage lakes. You can also fly 50 miles north to Anishinabi Lake. Anishinabi Lake is broken into numerous bays featuring weed beds, rock reefs and islands- ideal locations for trout and northern pike. You can also access nearby lakes for lake trout, northern and walleye. You can also fly into many secluded remote fishing outposts in the area.
