Lunker Lake Trout from Canadian Lakes Lake trout inhabit the cold, dark depths of deep lakes in Sunset Country. Some of the best fishing in our region is for this beautifully coloured fish and that big 30 pound trophy may be waiting to bite your line. In many instances, you will require downriggers to reach the depths they inhabit. Averaging between 2 and 12 pounds, these fish grow very slowly and live for an extremely long time.  The bigger lakers in the region can exceed 30 pounds. The clear, deep lakes that hold abundant populations of this fish are scattered across the region. Some are fly in only while others are drive in accessible. The one thing for sure is your guaranteed to catch fish! You can also troll for lake trout to first locate them and then switch to a vertical jigging technique using heavy jigs or large spoons to reel them in. Lake trout is a popular fish angled through the ice during the winter months. In the spring, from just after ice out to the end of May, lakers go shallow where you can troll or spin cast for them in 10 feet of water.Link to the lodges and resorts below that offer Lake Trout fishing. |

Pipestone Lake, the largest of our lakes, provides quality lake trout fishing. These lakers average 4-12 pounds and are normally caught in 40 to 120 feet of water.
