- Provincial Parks / Woodland Caribou Wilderness Park
Woodland Caribou Provincial Park Woodland Caribou is a true "wilderness park" located in Northwestern Ontario between Red Lake and the Manitoba border. At 450,000 hectares (1.1 million acres), it is Ontario's fifth largest Provincial Park. This area represents a vast unspoiled wilderness, yet it is within easy access of northwestern Ontario, Manitoba and the US Midwest. Canoeing is the featured activity in the park with over 1600 kilometres of existing routes. The natural abundance of connecting waterways provides the canoeist with the flexibility to plan unlimited and unique circuits within the park. Located in the Arctic Watershed, the park's two principle river systems, the Bloodvein in the north and the Gammon in the south, flow westerly into Lake Winnipeg and eventually into Hudson Bay. There are also several lodges offering spectacular freshwater fishing. At the present time, Woodland Caribou Park is accessible primarily by aircraft. There is water access via Red Lake to the Gammon River system (Douglas Lake). Main access points from the east and south are Knox Lake, Douglas Lake, Leano Lake, Sydney Lake and Eagle Lake. Access from Manitoba is via Garner Lake, Carroll Lake and Artery Lake.
