The Manitou Road is a good example of the gargantuan task of building highways through the Canadian Shield. This road cuts directly across the shield for 150 kilometers. It connects travelers to Dryden and north to the Red Lake and Sioux Lookout areas from Highway 11 east of Fort Frances.
